I heard today that the world’s largest online retailer, Amazon, is set to open a new customer service centre right here in the Mother City. It’s great to see this kind of investment and job creation opportunity happening in South Africa.
Here are some of the details:
- The new Amazon customer service centre is scheduled to open in Cape Town in October 2010.
- 600 new jobs will be created in the first two years, with another 400 seasonal jobs during the fourth quarter holiday season.
- The customer service centre will provide services in English and German.
- Keep a look out on www.amazon.com/careers for job opportunities at the new centre.
Well done to za.Amazon.com for going forward with this project in the Western Cape.
UPDATE: I thought I’d post an update to this page – the Amazon.com Development Centre in Cape Town is going strong! Here’s some more info: ‘Amazon.com Development Centre in Cape Town, South Africa is seeking a number of talented software engineers system engineers and team leads to help build and manage our Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). EC2 forms part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provide developers with access to in-the-cloud infrastructure services based on Amazon’s own back-end technology platform.
