The much anticipated first season of Masterchef South Africa will be starting on M-Net and M-Net HD on Tuesday 20 March 2012 at 19h30. Masterchef Australia was a huge hit here in South Africa, so I’m really keen to see what the South African version is like. Masterchef US (which featured Gordon Ramsay) was recently shown on M-Net but it didn’t quite have the same appeal as the Australian one – what do you think?
The filming location for the debut season of Masterchef SA is the Nederburg winery in Paarl. To facilitate the reality cooking show, Nederburg revamped the Johann Graue Auction Hall, equipping it with a state-of-the-art kitchen complete with 20 cooking stations. This is where the contestants are competing against each other in the Masterchef SA competition, which will be broadcast over the next 18 weeks.
The prizes on offer are impressive and include big cash prizes, a trip to Italy, sommelier courses, further cooking classes, a brand new car and the big one – the winner will get their very own restaurant.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the show turns out. The venue at Nederburg in the Cape Winelands certainly provides a stunning backdrop and setting. Let’s hope that the cooking is just as good!
