One of Cape Town’s most famous live music venues will be closing its doors at the end of this month. The Green Dolphin Restaurant – a venue which has become synonymous with jazz in the Mother City – will host its final evening of live music on Saturday 30 April 2011.
The Green Dolphin opened its doors in 1990 and was one of the first restaurants to open in the V&A Waterfront. Since then the venue has been ‘dedicated to the preservation of jazz’ and has hosted live jazz and bands seven nights a week. Some of the best jazz musicians around have played at the Green Dolphin over the years and it was always a place to discover someone new in the local jazz scene.
I hope we get to see the Green Dolphin re-opening sometime in the future. For now, the music rolls on until the end of April. So make your way down to the Green Dolphin before it closes and catch some quality music, while enjoying the great vibe at this famous Cape Town venue.
There are some fantastic acts who will be performing in the next few weeks, including the Gavin Minter Quartet, the Tina Schouw Quintet, the Amanda Tiffin Trio, Hassan’adas and many more. You can phone the Green Dolphin Restaurant on 021 421 7471 for more information and bookings.
