The popular Safari Half Marathon is on the way soon. The scenic race which takes place in Wellington is scheduled for Monday 2 May 2011 – a public holiday. Participants can choose to do the 21.1km half marathon, a 10km run/walk or a 5km fun run/walk.

An exciting addition to this year’s Safari Half Marathon is the new relay option where teams of two can enter the half marathon. The distance is divided into two legs of approximately 10.5km and it’s a fun option for runners who were planning on doing the individual 10km run.

The venue for the 2011 Safari Half Marathon is the Huguenot High School, which is located at 10 Willem Basson Street in Wellington North. Be sure to leave early if you’re travelling from Cape Town – you need a good two to three hours to reach the venue as there will be traffic. It might be a good idea to stay over in Wellington the night before and make a weekend of it.

The Safari Half Marathon is one of the most popular races on the Western Cape running calendar and the organisers are expecting over 10,000 participants this year. Entries close on the 17 April 2011 so visit and enter as soon as possible.

Expect a lot of runners and a great vibe in Wellington for the race. This year’s Safari Half Marathon is going to be a fantastic event. Enjoy!
