The 28th Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival kicks off on 1 July 2011 and runs through till 10 July 2011. Every year, the popular event brings thousands of sporting enthusiasts, adrenalin junkies, families and food and wine lovers to the beautiful town of Knysna on the Garden Route. Festival-goers can choose from over 100 sporting and lifestyle events during the festival’s ten action-packed days.

The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival offers everything from running, cycling, golfing, bowling and adventure racing to wine and whiskey tastings, cooking competitions, gala evenings, live music, food and wine pairings and of course, plenty of oysters! There’s also a specialized children’s programme to keep the little ones entertained.

New events at the 2011 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival include:

  • The Shebeen Experience, offering people the opportunity to experience the music, community life and cultures of people living in a township (2 – 9 July 2011)
  • A Stand Up Paddle (SUP) 6km race for surfers, which takes place on the Knysna Lagoon (6 July 2011)
  • The Hansa Waterfront Rush, back on the programme this year thanks to new sponsorship – participants race against the click on an obstacle course at the Knysna Waterfront (8 – 10 July 2011)
  • And a new rugby festival, which includes a tag rugby tournament for schools in the Western Cape, an Under 13’s Rugby Coaching Clinic for local school children with the SWD Eagles and the Steri Stumpie / KURFC Oyster Development Cup 15-a-side tournament (2 – 10 July 2011)
