The 44th Peninsula Marathon is set to take place on Sunday 20 February 2011. It’s always a popular run – one of the main reasons being that it’s an official qualifier for the Old Mutual Two Ocean Marathon. Many runners also use this event as training and preparation for the Two Oceans Marathon.
The event includes a full 42.2 km marathon, which starts in Green Point and finishes in Simon’s Town and also a 21.1 km half-marathon, which starts in Bergvliet and finishes in Simon’s Town. Changes to the route were made in the last couple of years to accommodate construction of the Cape Town Stadium but runners can look forward to the traditional route this year.
The full marathon starts in Main Road, Green Point (opposite the Cape Town Stadium) at 05h15, while the half marathon starts at the Bergvliet Sports Club in Childrens Way, Bergvliet, at 07h00. You can enter online at www.topevents.co.za.
The Peninsula Marathon is a favourite with locals and its perfect preparation if you’re working towards the Two Oceans Marathon.
