What do you think of the new Cape Town Stadium logo design?

The new logo for Cape Town Stadium was unveiled this week. It features a simple, clean design, focusing on the shape of the stadium, on a green background with the name. While there was some confusion on the name of the stadium – Green Point Stadium or Cape Town Stadium, it is now officially known as Cape Town Stadium. Here’s the logo:

Rugby legend, Morne Du Plessis, is the chairperson of SAIL STADEFRANCE, who are the new operators of the stadium. He had these words to say regarding the logo and what it should represent:

‘The logo had to be one that didn’t suggest the venue is merely a stadium for sporting events but also one that caters for all kinds of gatherings, including music concerts and gospel shows. Its design had to be modern yet timeless so that it would not date. To achieve this, the logo had to be a strong symbol – instantly synonymous with the stadium and a reflection of Cape Town.’

Morne also had this to say about the image in the logo design and also the colour:

‘We looked at the features around the stadium – the mountain, the sea, the lush flora and others, but we realised that the most defining feature of the stadium wasn’t what was around it, but the actual shape of the structure itself. Green was the chosen colour as it is rich and fruitful and is reminiscent of our beautiful city’s landscape and the stadium’s lush playing field. It also pays homage to the location of the stadium – Green Point.’

I think it’s a great logo. Modern, stylish design, nice colour and an interesting choice of font. What do you think? Share your thoughts.

Outstanding! One of those logos that leaves one wanting to have been the person who designed it.
