Two massive World Cup games at Cape Town Stadium this week – are you lucky enough to have tickets?

This week, Cape Town Stadium will see two of the most eagerly anticipated games of this year’s World Cup. First up, is the second round match between Spain and Portugal, which takes place on Tuesday 29 June 2010 at 20h30. And on Saturday 3 July 2010 at 16h00, you can look forward to a classic encounter between Germany and Argentina, two countries steeped in World Cup tradition.

Spain and Portugal will go all out in a match that will feature a host of football superstars. Christiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, David Villa, Cesc Fabregas and Xavi Hernandez are just some of the players who’ll be battling it out on the superb pitch at Cape Town Stadium in Green Point. These neighbouring countries have never played each other at a World Cup tournament before and they’re also both on a mission to win their first World Cup title. Perhaps the winner of this match will go on and make history.

Moving on to Saturday’s game. Germany has won the World Cup on three occasions, while Argentina has won the coveted trophy twice. The Germans weren’t among the favourites for this year’s event but the young team has played some superb football, showing excellent skill and great team-work. They are particularly good on the counter attack. Argentina has won all of their games in the tournament so far. The team’s star player, Lionel Messi, hasn’t scored a goal yet but he’s been brilliant in his role as a playmaker. These two countries met in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, also at the quarter final stage, with Germany eventually going on to win 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the game ended in a 1-1 draw. You can be sure Argentina will remember that disappointing loss and will desperately want to win, while Germany is hungry to go all the way, again.

Which country are you supporting? These two games are going to be crackers and it looks as though the teams have found their goal-scoring form. If you have tickets, have fun and enjoy!

Going for Spain over Portugal. And then Germany over Argentina. Overall, if Spain or Germany take the cup I’d be happy! Ps. go Ghana as well!

I’m really hoping for a Spain vs Brazil final. Number 1 vs number 2 in the world, I think that would cap a great tournament hosted by South Africa.

I’m holding thumbs for Germany. A great young team with lots of promise. They’ve got their system right, unlike some of the other bigger nations.

  6. Jen says:

Fernando Torres is the greatest player and Spain won the WORLD CUP – Spain rules with Fernando Torres.
