If you’re looking for a run to do before the end of the year, the scenic Landmarks Half Marathon is a great option. It takes place on Sunday 15 November 2009. The race was voted as one of the top four Runner’s World races in 2008. This popular event features a 21.1km half marathon, a 6km fun run and a 750m kiddies race.
The half marathon route includes the following landmarks: Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Rondebosch Common, Mostert’s Mill, University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, Newlands Forest, Josephine Mill, Newlands Brewery, Newlands Rugby Stadium and Sahara Park Newlands.
Proceeds raised will go to The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, which is the event’s official charity. This year as part of the ‘Running With Teddies’ campaign, all participants are encouraged to bring a soft toy on race day and drop it off on route in collection boxes outside the hospital.
- The event starts and finishes at the Western Province Cricket Club Sports Centre in Rondebosch.
