If you were at the Symphonic Rocks concert on Saturday 21 August 2010, I’m sure you’ll agree that it was brilliant. Six of South Africa’s top musical acts, along a superb 65-piece symphony orchestra, rocked a sold-out Grand Arena at the Grand West Casino. Andy Mac from Flat Stanley had a dream of blending rock/pop and classical music and along with everyone involved, managed to pull off a fantastic event. Check out the Zoopy video below for some of the highlights.
I was really impressed with the performances from Louise Carver, aKing, Ard Matthews, Flat Stanley and of course, the symphony orchestra. Gang of Instrumentals and Craig Hinds from Watershed also entertained the crowed with some of their hits. I was a bit disappointed not to see the whole Watershed band at the concert. Also, it would’ve been great to see the other guys from Just Jinjer, although Ard is fast becoming a Cape Town favourite. The evening finished with a guest appearance from Springbok Nude Girls guitarist (and one of SA’s top music producers), Theo Crous – he was joined by the rest of the performers for a rendition of the Springbok Nude Girls classic track, ‘Blue Eyes’.
Well done to everyone involved. Big ups to Heineken and 5FM for getting behind the event as well. I really hope Symphonic Rocks will become an annual event. The bands were great and the symphony orchestra, led by John Walton, was amazing. What did you think of the show? Feel free to leave a comment. I think it’s safe to say that Symphonic Rocks, rocked.

I absolutely loved Symphonic Rocks – it was a brilliant show – please organise another one next year!
Fantastic show – well done to Andy, the symphony orchestra and all the bands.
Are they going to release a DVD of the show? I was there. LOVED IT! Would love to keep a copy of the experience.
Hi Tristan, it was a great concert hey. Not sure if there’ll be a DVD. If anyone has heard anything, please feel free to comment.
