Rocking for Rhinos at the Hillcrest Wine Estate: 5 & 6 May 2012

Rocking for Rhinos is a two day concert happening at the Hillcrest Wine Estate in Durbanville on 5 and 6 May 2012. The concert will raise much needed funds for the rehabilitation of Higgins and Lady – two rhinos who were sadly attacked in the Fairy Glen Reserve in Wellington. Rocking for Rhinos will feature a mix of rock and blues, with some great bands on the line-up including Ashtray Electric, the Natasha Meister Band and When Karma Sleeps.

Rhino poaching is huge problem in South Africa. In 2010, 333 rhinos were killed, with the number increasing in 2011 to 443. So far in 2012, the rhino poaching number has already reached 163. Higgins and Lady (now part of The Higgins Project) survived their attacks but sadly lost their horns. Higgins also lost nearly 80% of his eyesight in the traumatic attack. We are now seeing a number of initiatives on the go to raise awareness for rhinos in South Africa and Rocking for Rhinos is one of them.
