Place in the Sun is a Fair Trade accredited range of wines from the Stellenbosch region of the Cape. The grapes used in the wine-making process are sourced from vineyards certified by FLO-CERT under the Fair Label Organisation (FLO) Standards that forms part of Fair Trade.
Growers are paid a premium for their fruit with a view towards social development of wine farm workers. The workers then have opportunity to decide on how the funds will be spent. Currently, premiums are funding early learning projects, tuition and school uniforms at schools of choice amongst farm workers, stepped up sporting activities and most recently, a vegetable garden to improve nutrition in the local communities.
The bold flavours of Place in the Sun wines are perhaps showcased best in the 2011 Place in the Sun Shiraz which recently won a gold medal at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, held in the UK. The Shiraz is big-hearted with generous sun-ripened, red fruit flavours that taste of summer, lifted by a hint of spice.
Other wines in the Place in the Sun range include:
- Place in the Sun Sauvignon Blanc
- Place in the Sun Cabernet Sauvignon
- Place in the Sun Merlot
