If you’re looking for a fun run/walk for a good cause, then here’s one that’s definitely worth looking into. The Avon Justine iThemba Cape Town Walkathon is taking place on Sunday 4 November 2012, with funds raised going towards breast cancer education and awareness in South Africa.
There are 2 distances to choose from – 5km and 10km. Both run/walk options start in Vlei Road (off Somerset Road) in Green Point and finish at the Green Point Common Sports Field. The route takes participants along the scenic promenade through Green Point and Sea Point.
Parking will be available on Somerset Road in Green Point, as well as at the Green Point Traffic Department, Hamiltons Rugby Club and the V&A Waterfront. My Citi bus services will also be operating from the Civic Centre terminal in Cape Town.
You can look forward to a festive vibe on the day with entertainment for the whole family, including a childrens play area, toddler trot, live performances, prize giveaways and food stalls.
The starting time for the 10km run/walk is 08h00 and the 5km option starts at 08h30. Entries cost R85 each for adults, R60 for children under 12 and there’s no cost for children under 2 years old. You can register online at www.ithembawalkathon.co.za/app/registration/register.
iThemba is a Zulu word which means “hope”. Since the start of the iThemba campaign in 2001, Avon Justine has raised over R8.5 million through the sale of iThemba products. Events such as this one help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, as well as for organisations such as Look Good… Feel Better (www.lgfb.co.za) which assist women facing the trauma and stress of cancer in a practical and empowering way by assisting them to overcome the distressing appearance related side effects of their treatment.
The Avon Justine iThemba Cape Town Walkathon promises to be a fun event, so let’s help make it the biggest one to date.
