The 2010 Cape Town Tens and Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival

The first weekend in February sees rugby taking centre stage with the 2010 edition of the Cape Town Tens happening at Hamilton’s RFC from 5 February 2010 to 7 February 2010 and also the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival, which takes place on 6 February 2010.

The Cape Town Tens is in it’s second year and is a fun-filled, ten-a-side rugby tournament, which has been organised by former Springbok stars, Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck together with Tournament Director Ron Rutland and Don Everitt of Kreate Event Management. According to the Cape Town Tens website (http://www NULL.capetowntens NULL.com), Tens rugby is: ‘a game for all shapes and sizes with five forwards and five backs in a team. It combines the best aspects of Sevens and 15-man rugby, creating a game with more open space than 15′s, but with less kicking and less contact. However scrums, line-outs, big hits and even rucking are still important in this version of the game; and of course with all the extra space, speed, skill, and the high scoring that epitomises 7′s rugby are all characteristics of the 10′s game.’

You can expect to see former rugby stars, celebrities, well-known South African bands as well as top UK cover band, The Lightyears and there’ll be a huge beer festival at Hamilton’s RFC on the Saturday evening.

The Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival taking place at the new Cape Town Stadium in Green Point will feature two rugby matches. The first is a Tens rugby match, which sees a South African Legends team taking on an International Legends Team. This will be a curtain-raiser match for the main game of the day, which sees the Vodacom Stormers playing against a Boland Invitational XV. There will also be a live performance by top South African band, Flat Stanley at the Cape Town Stadium on the day. Gates open at 14h00 and the action kicks off at 16h15.

A full weekend pass to the Cape Town Tens, which includes access to the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival will cost R120 per person. If you’re only wanting to attend the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival it’ll cost you R50 to R80 for a ticket. You can buy tickets at any Computicket branch or online at www.computicket.com (http://www NULL.computicket NULL.com/web/event/cape_town_stadium_rugby_festival/96220018). And if you’d like to only attend the Cape Town Tens Finals day on Sunday, it’ll cost R40 at the Hamilton’s RFC gate on the day.
