The Brothers Streep – Look out for this Cape Town band

I’ve played in a few Cape Town bands in the couple of years and I’m always keen to see new bands coming through on the scene. This past Friday night at Fogeys in Muizenberg, I was really impressed with a band that I hadn’t seen before called ‘The Brothers Streep’. They’re a five piece acoustic pop/rock comedy band and are really entertaining and fun to watch.

They’re really quite different to anything I’ve seen before, especially in the Cape Town music scene. Their songs poke fun at everything from South African pop culture to Hollywood stars and even Abba and pirates aren’t safe from their repertoire. They also performed a superb cover of the Tears For Fears classic, Head Over Heels.
The band has recently got some international exposure on the UK talk show, The Graham Norton Show. The actress, Anna Paquin was being interviewed on the show and the band had previously recorded a song all about her. It’s really funny and you can view the video clip below.
The Brothers Streep have some upcoming gigs at The Albert Hall in Woodstock on Thursday 17 December 2009 (21h00, R50) and at The Barleycorn at Rygersdal Sports Club in Erin Road, Rondebosch on Saturday 19 December 2009 (20h00, R20). They’ve got a cool website where you can also download some of their songs for free. Check it out at www.brothersstreep.com. (http://www NULL.brothersstreep NULL.com/music)
